Guter Katalog zum Blättern und zwischendurch kürzere Texte lesen. Das ist kein richtiges Buch an sich. Jedoch ist es ein Muss für jeden Architekturbegeisterten.
Das Buch ist total gut. Er hat sich riesig gefreut. Die Lueferung war auch perfekt, war früher öda als geplant.
I'm about half way through it and already it has profoundly changed my view of the world around me. This book transcends architecture and touches on spirituality, politics, society and culture. A stirring manifesto for the convergence of several aspects of the global condition. Reading it has sparked a wave of creativity in my own line of work (financial analyst/software developer). Why is architecture important? Because it deals with the design of systems. Physical systems, biological, computer and natural systems. Architecture is life. I beleive Mr. Koolhaas understands this by evidence of his writings. Bravo!
S,M,L,XL habe ich mir, war noch ehe mir klar war, dass ich irgendwann architektur studieren werde, gekauft. OMA udn Koolhaas waren mir total unbekannt, aber das buch, die art architektur darzustellen gefiel mir damals und gefaellt mir auch heute immer noch. Man kann es auf viele arten lesen, an einem stueck wird es allerdings keiner schaffen. zu viel zu dicht und ohne den hintergrund zu kennen oft auch unverstaendlich.Mittlerweile sind einige architekturbuecher dazugekommen und trotzdem ist der griff zu s,m,l, xl haeufig der erste, ncith zuletzt weil es immer noch das breiteste kreuz - sprich buchruecken hat. dabei muesste ich es eigentlich mittlerweile auswendig kennen, denn ich arbeite fuer OMA. selbst im buero das fuer s,m,l,xl verantwortlich zeichnet ist das buch staendige referenz und sowohl vermaechtnis vorhergehender architektengenerationen bei OMA als auch inspirationsquelle. Jedem der an einem buch interessiert ist, das voll von inspiration ist sei s,m,l, xl angeraten. wer eher auf bildbaende steht sollte nicht zugreifen, denn zum verstaendnis des buches gehoert mehr als das anschauen von bildern. Es ist eine einladung sich intensiver mit architektur, ihren zielen, ihrer kraft aber auch ihrer ziellosigkeit und kraftlosigkeit auseinanderzusetzen.
I was expecting an incisive analysis of modern architecture on different scales, filled with examples of projects, both dreams and real buildings. Instead, the book is a chaotic assortment of rubbish -- excerpts of floor-plans, littered with photos which are hopefully intended to create a mood rather than convey a sense of the building. All in all, innovative typography and an overtly abstract approach take the place of real content. For me it was a great disappointment, and after a first read, its silver spine is all of it I'm likely ever to see.
